PRESS RELEASE   13th November 2007

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

Young musicians at Perfect Notes Music School are following the advice of acclaimed classical violinist and former young musician of the year, Nicola Benedetti, in practising more often in a bid to improve their musical skills.

28 pupils have taken practice to a whole new level by signing up to take part in Practice-a-thon!, the national fundraising initiative run by children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent, which sees students getting sponsored to play their instruments or practise singing during a two week period.

Karen Appleby, Principal of Perfect Notes Music School says: “We’re delighted to be supporting Practice-a-thon! The students are behind the idea and are really enthused about practising their instruments. We’d like to encourage other schools and youth groups in the area to take part too”.

“The students are using the initiative as extra motivation ahead of their exams this term and their Christmas concert in December”.

Of the money raised by Practice-a-thon!, 75% will be used by CLIC Sargent to fund services benefiting the 10 children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia every day in the UK and their families, whilst schools and groups will be able to keep up to 25% to invest in future music projects. Perfect Notes Music School will be sending all of the money collected to CLIC Sargent.

The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) are right behind the event, with Christine Morris explaining, “Practice-a-thon! is a fantastic way of nurturing musical talent. As well as providing motivation and encouragement to practice for concerts or music exams, it offers people of all ages the perfect opportunity to discover new types of music and instruments”.
